NHLTracker is an independently operated website. This policy explains what happens to information when you read NHLTracker, turn on NHLT Alerts, or follow a link away from it. It describes NHLTracker’s own website; your browser, the web host, push services, X, Ko-fi, and payment providers have their own practices.
Reading NHLTracker
- Reading NHLTracker needs no account, and visitors never sign in.
- NHLTracker shows no advertising, does not sell visitor data or use it for targeted advertising, and uses no third-party analytics, analytics cookies, tracking pixels, or cross-site profiles.
- NHLTracker’s public pages set no cookies.
Traffic measurement
NHLTracker’s own server counts the pages it serves, so it can tell how the site is used:
- Page views are added up in five-minute totals by the page shown, such as the News Wire, the Insider Hub, or one story.
- To estimate how many different visitors there are, the server combines a coarsely shortened network address (the first three parts of an IPv4 address, or the first 48 bits of an IPv6 address) with a broad browser family, such as Chrome, Safari, or Firefox, and turns them into a keyed code. That code is an estimate, not a person: many people can share one, and one person can appear as several.
- Your full IP address and your browser’s user-agent string are not stored in these records.
- If your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, the page view is still counted, but it forms no visitor estimate.
- The five-minute totals and the visitor estimates are removed after 35 days.
Browsers and networks can keep a copy of a page and show it again without asking the server, so the counts can be lower than the number of screens actually seen.
Stored on your device
NHLTracker’s pages keep up to three small values in your browser’s local storage. They stay on your device, are not sent to NHLTracker, and are not used for analytics or to recognize you on another device:
- Your colour scheme, if you chose light or dark with the switch in the header. It stays until you choose again.
- When you last opened the first page of the News Wire, so stories that are new since then can be marked. A time older than 30 days is ignored, and each visit replaces it.
- That you turned NHLT Alerts off on this browser, so the control does not suggest its usual categories again. It is removed if you turn alerts back on.
Clearing this site’s data in your browser removes all three.
NHLT Alerts
Alerts are optional and stay off unless you turn them on.
- Your browser asks your permission before it shows notifications, and your browser and device settings decide whether and how an alert appears.
- When you turn alerts on, your browser creates a push subscription with its own push service, run by the browser or operating system maker. NHLTracker stores that subscription’s endpoint address and keys encrypted, a one-way digest of the endpoint used to find it, and the categories you chose.
- NHLTracker also keeps records of when a subscription was created, changed, or turned off, and of what happened to each alert it sent, such as sent, expired, or failed.
- To limit abuse, requests to change alerts are counted briefly under a keyed code of the requesting address that changes every day.
- Alerts travel to your device through your browser’s push service, which applies its own practices.
- Turning alerts off releases the subscription in your browser and marks it revoked on NHLTracker’s server, and no further alert is sent to it.
- No alert endpoint or key is ever shown publicly.
How long information is kept
- Traffic measurement records are removed after 35 days.
- Alert subscriptions, whether active or turned off, and alert delivery records are kept as part of the service’s operating history. They currently have no fixed deletion period.
- Values stored on your device stay there until they are replaced or you clear them.
Links, X, and Ko-fi
Loading an NHLTracker page makes no request to X or to Ko-fi. Following a link to an insider’s post or profile takes you to X, where X’s own terms and privacy policy apply.
Opening Support NHLTracker (the coffee cup) loads Ko-fi’s embedded payment panel. Anything you enter there, such as a name, a message, or payment details, is handled by Ko-fi and its payment provider under their own terms and privacy policies, not by NHLTracker’s website.
Hosting and networks
Like any website, NHLTracker reaches you through a web host and network providers. They may process ordinary request and security information, such as IP addresses and request details, in their own logs. NHLTracker does not control those logs or how long they are kept.
Your choices
- Leave NHLT Alerts off, or turn them off at any time from the NHLT Alerts control.
- Clear this site’s data in your browser to remove the values stored on your device.
- Send Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control to be left out of the visitor estimates.
- Do not open Support NHLTracker if you do not want Ko-fi’s panel to load.
- Do not follow a link away from NHLTracker if you do not want to visit that site.
NHLTracker does not ask for your name or contact details, and it does not currently offer a channel for access or deletion requests. The choices above are the ways to limit or remove what this policy describes.
Security
NHLTracker is served only over HTTPS, stores alert subscriptions encrypted, keeps its measurement coarse, and limits its administration to signed-in administrators. No website can promise perfect security.
Children
NHLTracker is a general-audience hockey news site. It is not directed at children, and it asks no one for a name, age, or contact details.
Changes to this policy
If NHLTracker’s practices change, this page will be updated and its Last updated date will change.
